Stop Vilifying School Librarians
Florida Gov. DeSantis has continued his crack down on books in Florida schools, leading to empty shelves where school libraries once stood and school librarians vilified and fearful they’ll be charged with felonies.
It’s awful, authoritarian, and dangerous.
Offering No Solutions
The House GOP is again going to play chicken with the US debt ceiling, saying they won’t go along with increasing the debt ceiling without balancing the budget.
They’ve rejected outright any tax increase. They also want to take funds away from the IRS, which the CBO projects will increase the deficit.
Various GOP factions have outright rejected any cuts to defense spending. Many reject cuts to entitlements like Social Security and Medicare.
The target then becomes discretionary domestic spending, with very popular programs such as farm subsidies, water programs, infrastructure, and more.
But to balance the budget by cutting only discretionary domestic spending would require cutting 85% of that spending.
So far there’s no solution offered up, let alone one that will pass the Senate and White House.
So we’re left with what… magic thinking? Or the favorite response when they don’t know what to do, thoughts and prayers.

Katie Porter is taking her whiteboard and declaring a run for the Senate, to replace Dianne Feinstein in 2024. Feinstein has yet to announce if she will run for re-election in 2024, though she has filed the paperwork to be able to run.
Will be interesting to see it play out.

After all the fuss over Trump having classified government documents in his office, now we find that Biden had some in his private office, too, even when he was not in office.
Yes, it’s not the same, as the Biden team has voluntarily returned the documents to the National Archives when they found them, while Trump was holding documents long after their return was ordered.
But, c’mon, Joe, it’s not a good look.
Biden’s Immigration Plan
The Biden Administration introduced a new immigration policy that makes no one happy. Among other policy plans, it would restrict people from applying for asylum at the U.S. Border, instead telling people to stay where they are and apply for asylum from home.
Completely ignoring that the reason people need asylum is because their home is no longer safe.

The House GOP failed to elect a new Speaker of the House on Tuesday. It’s the first time in 100 years that a new Congress did not elect a Speaker with the first vote. This Congress failed to elect a Speaker through 3 votes.
Let the infighting continue.
