President is basically King in Official Acts
The Supreme Court says the President is immune from prosecution for “official acts.” But good luck parsing official acts from unofficial. And official acts can’t be used as evidence in other charges. A second Trump term just became much more dangerous.
That’s kinda the point
It’s how we stay stuck in the status quo.
Clarence Doesn’t Pay
Luxury trips, real estate, private school tuition for a dependent, payments to his wife with her name removed from the invoice to disguise it - Clarence Thomas is willing to take it all from rich benefactors without disclosing it.
It’s not the way our Supreme Court Justices should act.
It’s a Bad Look
Harlan Crow, billionaire sugar daddy to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, reportedly has a collection of Nazi memorabilia including a Hitler-autographed copy of “Mein Kampf” and a painting by Hitler.
Let’s face it, even if you’re a history buff, collecting Nazi memorabilia is not a good look.
Clarence on a Familiar Yacht
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has received free luxury vacations - including private jets, yachts, private resorts, and overseas trips - from a wealthy GOP donor for decades, without ever reporting it on any disclosures. The ethical lapses and corruption further undermines public trust in the Supreme Court. It continues Thomas’s reputation of questionable behavior, including his refusal to recuse himself from cases that tangentially involve his wife, back to his sexual harassment of Anita Hill. We deserve better.
Summer Movie Sequels
Ah, Summer. When the weather heats up and the movie cineplex is filled with bad sequels we never really needed. Sigh.
Clarence Thomas
In overturning Roe v Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas argues that the Court should also revisit other previously-settled laws that affect the rights to contraception, same sex relationships, and same sex marriage, all of which are based on the 14th Amendment.
He did not address Loving v Virginia, which set the precedent that the 14th Amendment’s due process and privacy clause give the right to interracial marriage.
We’ve all become acutely aware of his wife, Ginni Thomas - a white woman - from the release of many of her text messages to Mark Meadows and other White House staff in trying to overturn the 2020 election and supporting the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol.
Perhaps he’s ok with revisiting that one after all, though?
C’mon, it’s satire.
Time to Fight
Time to fight. State by state. Don’t like your state’s laws? Vote in new people who will change them.
And this isn’t just about women’s rights. Justice Clarence Thomas is calling to revisit gay marriage and rights to contraception.
Don’t like the way the country is going? Let’s work to change it. Hold on, it’s going to be a long fight.
Congress sure can act quickly when they’re motivated
For so many issues, Congress is deadlocked, unable to act, even to protect our children. But when there’s a vague, potential threat to the powerful, they sure do act quickly.
Wondering whom they really serve?
Who could have seen it coming?
With yesterday’s leaked Supreme Court opinion re: Roe v Wade, who could have seen this coming, other than all the people who saw this coming??
Right to Choose
A leaked opinion shows the Supreme Court is set to reverse 49 years of precedence and overturn Roe v Wade, ending federal protections for a woman’s right to choose and setting off a firestorm of legislation across every state.
Buckle up. It’s going to be a state-by-state fight. Elections matter.
How will it happen this time?
I think I’d like the Democratic Party more if they didn’t feel so inept at getting things done. Often feel like we’re just waiting to see how they’ll shoot themselves in the foot this time. Sigh.
